Frequently Asked Questions
How much does VBS cost? The Garden Fellowship does not charge to attend VBS.
How old does my child need to be to attend VBS? VBS is for all kids who have completed Kindergarten through 5th grade by the end of the 2024-2025 school year.
When do kids promote grades? We promote kiddos after VBS so that current kinder and 5th grade students will be able to attend. If your child is in 5th grade, they will be able to attend VBS and be promoted to Junior High the Sunday following VBS.
I am an adult volunteer and prefer my child to be placed with me. How do I request this? We will gladly place you with your child during your volunteer time of VBS! On your registration form, please indicate which child (if you have more than one) you would like to be placed with. Please note, whatever the age/grade of your child, this is where you will be placed. For example, if your child is 3 years old, we will place you as a preschool leader. If your child is 7, we will place you as an elementary leader for that grade. If you prefer not to be placed with your child, you have that option as well.
Can preschoolers attend VBS? We offer a preschool program (for infant through pre-k only) for volunteers who commit to serving for the week of VBS.
How do I register online? You will click the “register” button which will prompt you to log in to our system. If you don’t have an account, you can easily create an account with your email address. Once you are logged in, you can register multiple children or register as a volunteer for VBS. Once you have successfully registered, you will get a confirmation email with further details.
Can my child be in a group with their friends? Yes! On the first day of VBS, your child will be assigned a team color based on their grade. As long as your friend is assigned the same team color, you may both join the same group, as long as that group is not full. We encourage friends who are assigned the same team color to enter the first day together and select the same team leader. Children will remain in the same group the entire week of VBS.
Can friends/siblings in different grades be in the same group? No, we group kids by the school grade that they have just completed. This helps kids make friends with their peers and ensures an age-appropriate learning environment.
I have a child with special needs. Can they participate in VBS? Yes, as long as your child can be a part of large group participation. If your child has developmental, physical, neurological delays and/or disorders, please indicate your child’s needs and the type of assistance he or she will require so we can try our best to match a one-on-one buddy to assist them. (Based on availability). If they already have an aide, have the aide register as a volunteer and they must attend one of our leader training meetings as well as complete and pass a background check in order to remain on campus during VBS. All volunteers must be registered to participate in VBS. Please note that we do NOT have a specific special needs class during VBS.
Can my child volunteer during VBS? Yes. We love our Jr. High and High School VBS volunteers. However, we do limit the number of junior volunteers. Therefore, we STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you to register early!
What measures are taken to ensure the safety of our children? All adult volunteers are required to do the following:
1. Have a cleared background check.
2. All volunteers must be registered volunteers.
3. Attend a mandatory VBS Leader Training prior to serving during the week of VBS.
For parents/adults picking up children, please make sure all designated pick-up persons are listed on the child’s registration form (including the parent’s name if you will be picking up your child as well). The child’s leader will check the name against the list of people you have designated on your registration form to pick up your child.
What about my child with allergies? Your child’s care and well-being is our number one concern during their week of VBS. Please be sure to list all allergies on the registration form for your child. We will not provide any snacks that have nuts. Your child’s snacks will be prepared by an experienced allergy volunteer. We will have separate “allergy friendly” snacks with your child’s name listed to ensure proper distribution of snacks. You are also welcome to provide your own snacks for your child if that is your preference.
I have more questions, how do I contact someone? If you have any questions, please send an email to kids@thegardenfellowship.com.
